Treadmill power
Fitness equipment should be designed to withstand constant, repetitive use. But as with everything else, some makes and models are sturdier than others. Before you buy, check the horsepower rating for the treadmill. This is the power output during steady, continuous use. Don’t be misled by statistics designed to artificially inflate this rating, such as “peak horsepower” or “treadmill rating” or “duty power” or any combination of these terms. These might refer to the maximum power available at intervals, but which can’t be maintained continuously.
A horsepower rating of at least 1.5 is advisable. If you can’t find this specification in the literature, the horsepower should be imprinted on a metal plate on the motor, so you might be able to take a peek under the motor cover to check.
